Movie Club Monday: Leap Year and St. Patrick's Day Inspiration

What do Leap Year and St. Patrick's Day have in common? More than you might think! Find inspiration for your next movie night and have a few laughs.
As a kid, I was always fascinated by the idea of "leap year".  I imagined how funny it would be to say that my birthday was on Leap Day because then when I was 16, I would have only had four "real" birthdays.  (I've celebrated eight leap years myself.)  So while this year may not be a leap year--the next one is in 2020--I thought it would be fun to incorporate it into this month's Movie Club Monday theme which is a romantic comedy.  The movie of choice:  Leap Year, of course.  *wink*

Leap Year, ironically, was not released on Leap Day or even in a leap year.  If you haven't seen the movie, it basically follows a woman (Anna) who travels to Dublin, Ireland to propose to her boyfriend on Leap Day, which is apparently acceptable according to an old Celtic tradition.  But things don't go according to plan and she gets stranded in a small village where she makes a deal with a man (Declan) to take her to Dublin.  Of course they fall in love along the way and everything ends happily ever after.  Leap Year is one of those movies that sometimes gets a bad rap, but if you go into it expecting to get a few laughs, you'll likely be satisfied.  Oh, and the other reason I chose this movie: next month we celebrate St. Patrick's Day in honor of Saint Patrick who is remembered as the most prominent saint in Ireland.  (See what I did there?)

I've rounded up some of my favorite green items to celebrate St. Patrick's Day next month and hope that next time you have a hankering for a sweet and uncomplicated romantic comedy, that you'll pick Leap Year.
