Easy Blooming Envelope and Card

One of the many craft supplies I hoard stock up on is scrapbook paper.  I have stacks of it and yet I can never seem to have enough.  I know I can't be the only one with this problem, so I'm trying to be more creative with the ways that I use it.  A goal that I have for myself this year is to send more cards to people: thank you cards, just because cards, thinking of you cards, etc.  But buying that many cards can get expensive, so I've decided that I am going to try and make my cards.  I'll still have some store bought ones on hand but I figure if I have so much cute paper, I might as well use it.  So I used my Silhouette cutting machine and creating a super fun and simple template for some mini cards and envelopes.

These cute cards are pretty easy to make but I love how they look a little harder to make than they actually are! *wink*  Here is what you'll need to make your own:

• Silhouette cutting machine
• cardstock
• ruler
• stickers
• rub-on transfers
• washi tape

First, you'll need to make your envelope template.  Start by making a square.  I resized it to a 4x4.

Then make a circle.  I also resized this to a 4x4.  Replicate the circle so you have four total.

Layer the circles on top of the square with one on each side so it looks like the image below.

Select all the shapes by holding down the Shift key or you can drag your mouse over the top of all of them to select all.  Click on the "weld selected shapes" icon at the bottom of the software.

And now you are left with a four petal shaped envelope template.

I opened the Scale window and resized the template to be 8.25 x 8.25, then rotated it 45 degrees and moved it into the upper left hand corner of the design page so it would take up less room when I cut it out.

Next, I opened up a blank page to create the card.  The middle section of the envelope template is a little larger than 4x4, so I created a rectangle that is 4x8 so I could fold it in half and it would fit inside with a little room to spare.

Then I added a straight line through the middle of the card.  I found the middle by turning on my grid and moving the rectangle up so it lined up with the grid and then placing the straight line on top of the middle line.

Lastly, I cut out my envelope and card.  One note about cutting out the card is to make sure that you select the "perforate edge" option on the middle line of the card.  This will make a dashed line and make it easier to fold in half.  If you don't choose to perforate it, the machine will just cut your card in half and you'll end up with two 4x4 cards instead of a folded card.

I embellished my cards with some stickers and rub-on transfers that I had on hand from my sticker stash.

To score the envelope, I lined up my ruler on top of the card along the straight edge of my desk and folded it down along each side.

To fold the card inside the envelope, I folded one side down at a time.  When I got to the last flap, I tucked it underneath the first one.  If you need to secure it further, a cute sticker or piece of washi tape would work perfectly.

I absolutely love how these envelopes and cards turned out!  I chose to do a coordinating set of three with a flower/spring type theme because I'm kind of wishing it was warmer here where I live, but you could easily choose any pattern or color for your envelopes and cards.

Tie these up with a little bakers twine and these would make a perfect little gift!  Or you could keep them on hand for when you need to add a little note to a gift, a treat for a friend or just because.
